La Haine / ︻╦̵̵͇̿̿̿̿╤──

The movie takes us to economically and socially poor suburbs of France. Where the riot took place, and mayhem overtook the territory. The movie shows the big social problems between social and national groups in France. Police, social groups, skinheads. Chaos and fear is in the air...

The movie itself starts with the views from the riot with a soundtrack of Bob Marley - Burnin' and Lootin', straight away you can feel the music and view crossover and the mind set in the beginning.
The main characters of the movie - jew Vince, afro-american - Hubert and an arab - Said are involved straight away to complicated relations with the Police, skinheads while one of their friends Abdel was majorly injured in an accident while conflicting the law enforcement. This takes one of the characters - Vince, to the point when he says : Eye for an eye, and if his friend dies he will kill a police officer.

The whole is in black and white, where you can see the racial difference between people, and the sides between police and the rioters, when this is one of the most essential things in the movie, the side that you are one. Using close up's and establishing shots the director builds up the tension and slowly brings it up to the peak. But the point when you thing it's going to reach it, tension calms down and comes back only in the end of the movie... the last shots. In addition to that on of the other tools that  uses is the time reminder, that gives you a feeling that the time is being counted, but being counted until what? So when the last scene is taking place the time change is only 1minute, but the you realise how much can change in one minute...

Kassovitz convey the violence and the the police, that constantly follows around the young generation, the differences between social layers and groups. How the main characters struggle in many ways to achieve something, or just to live their lives what leeds them to a different behavior where the brutal strength or aggression is the only option to interact with people.

clock shows that the time is being counted... but to what?  the confrontation , the hate towards police

Argo

Movies such as Argo doesn't come to the big screen often. Most of the viewers who remember Hollywood until the blockbusters era can't believe the success that this movie achieved. All of us got used to big movies with hundreds of million budgets, but the "dream factory" hasn't showed anything special for a long time. Except for literature remakes or if it's a thriller it's bound to be one of those movies with special effects on every corner and oceans of graphics. To think that suspense could be created by only power of the mind and camera work not digitally generated graphics if think the mass viewer has forgot already.

The movie takes us to 1979's when the Iran islamist's storm the USA embassy and took 52 americans as hostages. During the mayhem 6 of them were able to get away and hide themselves in Canada's ambasador's home. While the whole incident was leading to destruction USA's and Canada's governments understood that if the 6 hostages will be found, that would only mean their death, and here  the CIA stepped in with a phenomenal plan. Creating a sci-fi movie in Iran was found to be a ridiculous but effective plan, what you will be able to see in the movie.

Elegant, melancholic but strict to every single detail that's how i would describe this movie. Being precise in every step made this movie what it is now. In addition to that i could not let it slip throught the eyes the team that was gathered for this movie. From the writer Joshuah Bearman to the screenplay of Chris Terrio.

First part of the movie is quite similar to a true political drama, when everything is shot in documentary kind of style and is a bit compared to the Hollywood uproar. From great detailed scenes and style to easily chaotic life in USA. Meanwhile the second part of the movie brings us to the thriller side of the movie where the tension builds up as there is less and less time to save the hostages. Here the director uses politics to create the suspense, will they make it? Will they survive?

In the end i would like to repeat myself, that great team and great camera work, set design, make up brings us directly to the time when this was happening, and that just fells so natural.

Nine Queens / 9 ♛

Nine Queens ( Nueve Reinas) was an easy going movie that i really enjoyed watching. Well developed storyline and precise camera work made a simple story and interesting light thriller into a movie that takes you inside of him and let's you experience the life of each character. Finding a quality of yourself in any of them drags you in to the movie even more.

The movie tells a story about two grifters Juan and Mark who meet unexpectedly in the middle of Juan's scam. Ironicly but one get's scammed by another, but on contrary that doesn't lead to a clash between two of them, it lead's to a partnership. Where more experienced "crook" is in a need of new partner.

A step by step story telling is crossing with unexpected turns make's you still wonder what is going to happen next. During the movie you give a take the sympathy to the character when you begin to know the reasons why they are in to the mess they are now. You can see the parallel between the main story and the side stories that are being told by the main characters. Both main actors Ricardo Darin & Gaston Pauls have developed their characters and delivered the message to viewer. When it begins with small affairs and builds up their relatioship between each other and they seriousness of their scams, when they become more and more serious if only a short period of time. That lead's them to the biggest scam of their lives - selling fake post signs "Nine Queens" to a collectionare.

Great choice of costumes and the color palette in the movie doesn't get you tired or bored. Paste of it has the flow that brings you the idea and you have to be very careful to follow the movie, because if you miss any of the story parts, you won't be able understand what is what. That's why i think Fabian Bielinsky have made an amazing movie.

Hitchcock / ♔

A newcomer of the blue screen Sacha Gervasi movie was made according to the Stephen Rebel book’s – Alfred Hitchcock and “Psycho”. It’s not just another movie about a director or how any movie is made. The name itself gives away and introduces us to the one of the greatest directors of all time. The story show’s how relationship between the master of suspense and his wife was developed during the movie making and what party did she took in his life and production.  The movie takes us to the point when one of the most ambitious and shocking movies of Alfred Hitchcock was made. 1960 was the year when the great director shocked the world with one of his most famous movies now – Psycho.

Sacha Gervasi a new name to the big screen, not experienced working with such big names as Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren or Scarlett Johansson did quite a good job, thought the movie itself is not that rich visually. Thought the director bases his movie around some of the techniques that Alfred Hitchcock used to use itself. Well-known humorous scenes and the simplicity of television genres were noticeable from the beginning. The movie starts and ends with music furthermore you could definitely see the familiarity when Alfred Hitchcock just stands there with the cup of tea on the shot, the same technique as Hitch used to present and end his own series.

The movie itself just simply tells the facts and shows the most important aspects of the character – Alfred Hitchcock life and creative process: suspense, black humor, and irony. In my opinion the strength of this movie is how it conveys the 1959’s. The costumes, style, and looks this implies why the movie was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Make up & hairstyling.  Just because of this you could see how the actors looked and experienced in the late 50’s.
